I don't understand. The site is up.
If you are saying that the Downloads Hangar is not available, then you are correct. We stated this would take some time to enable us to make it available without making it too difficult to make future updates. It has been said many times.

When we first started it did look for a while that it would be gone for good. Be happy that it will return and be patient.

The library site is still not up. I'm not talking about this forum section.

Stuart,

It's right here saying the hanger will be up when it's ready.

I know that. Why it takes so long time? Most flight communities updated within 24 hours or 2 days back up running again. Not this MAIW had pulse 4 weeks!

I don't understand why so long time.

The access is not supported by the hosting company.

The old method of accessing the data is not supported any more as it was a bespoke method devised by one person.

The whole host system had to be updated. The whole forum had to be updated. This broke the method for access which was a non-standard way of doing it setup to give users more features.

The website mechanics had to be simplified to allow the upgrades, which broke the non-standard system that was built by one person many years ago.
To fix it a new way to access it has to be identified and implemented. There is no tech support on this. This is one person working it all out on his weekends aided by two other people when and where they can help. The one person doing the work only has to ask when he needs us.

Therefore the new access, when it comes, may not be as user friendly nor come with as many features.
How much plainer can I make it?

In simple terms this is a hobby not a job. The person mainly doing the work actually has a job and a home life. That will always take precedence.

You expressing frustration at not being able to access something is pointless. It is not a case of you can access it but we don't want to let you.

I liken it to people making comments about the length of time that it is taken to release a new model.

This is a hobby and nobody gets paid and nobody pays for a service.

Stuart, there is nothing we can do but wait - and I have had a lot of experience with that as a soldier.

There are tons of us that gladly would pitch in and help - if we could. But I would imagine most are like me - I have a reasonably basic knowledge of Windows, and a reasonably basic knowledge of FSX and P3D, so I am useless in this connection and more likely to just get in the way.

The task for those involved, as you can see from Steve's remarks, is no less than monumental. Flightsim.com went through something similar a while ago, and the user interface changed there as it will here, probably most with respect to file acccess. That the forum here runs at all is a miracle.

I will take this opportunity to express my appreciation of the hard work that everyone here does -

Jorgen

PS: I'll get off my soap-box now...

The download hangar is back. It may look a bit messy, but at least everything should be functioning again.

I still need to recreate the upload form with all the right fields so that will take a bit more time.

Happy downloading!

Greg, Martin, Steve and anyone else who I forgot.

Thanks so much - you guys did a herculean task (not unlike trying to change all 4 tires on your car while it is still speeding down the autoban) with hardy any disruptions.

thanks again

Nice work gentlemen. I know it can't be easy. Even the outside links to the various files here work like before. I don't know how you pulled that off but well done!

...and many thanks!!

I will say that my role was, in truth, only that of suggestions and encouragement.
Greg is the one that deserves the vast majority of the credit for this enterprise.

Thanks for all your efforts. This site is an amazing resource. We’re lucky that enough volunteers are capable and willing to fix it and keep it going. That people complain about the time it takes is hard to believe.

Thank you very much for all this work and effort to sort it out. MAIW is still an indispensable site to me and thankfully it is almost back again.

Well done, MAIW Team and special thanks to Greg. This upgrade is no easy task and to do it on a voluntary basis is epic.
I am looking forward to using the Download hangar again for all the upcoming releases.
Great stuff!
