Chrome Blocks Download
Chrome Blocks Download
I downloaded the Culdrose package, and as the title suggests, Chrome didn't like it.
I wondered if anyone has similar issues?
It's a Chrome problem, probably; certainly I would expect to be able to override it, but no such option!

Re: Chrome Blocks Download
Apologies if I have got this completely wrong but I thought I saw a story somewhere last week that the latest versions of chrome were deliberately no longer recognizing certain url types, like magnet links for torrents.
If I got it correct maybe that is linked.
Of course I may be going gaga and had a very weird dream instead.

Re: Chrome Blocks Download
No answers, only more questions... it used to be possible to decide yourself whether a file was OK to open.
No longer, Google decided this file was Bad and that's the end of it.
It sits in my download folder as a cryptic file which cannot be accessed.
Is Google becoming like Apple, who knows best what is best for you?
Is MAIW a covert organization secretly disseminating unwelcome material??

Re: Chrome Blocks Download
Well it seems that a portable version of another browser might be the best way to go here.

No idea why chrome doesn't like the file. It's not different than any other one.
You could turn off Google's Safe Browsing feature in Chrome temporarily.
You could turn off Google's Safe Browsing feature in Chrome temporarily.
- Load chrome://settings/in the browser.
- Select "show advanced settings" at the bottom of the screen.
- Under Privacy, locate "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites" and remove the checkmark from the preference.
- This disables all phishing and malware checks in the browser.

Or ditch Chrome and use Firefox. Used it for years and never had any problems. If you use a good anti virus programme it will scan the file and tell you if it finds dubious material prior to opening the download.

Re: Chrome Blocks Download
Hi,
have followed Greg's advice after Google Chrome kicked out the RNAS Culdrose download. It worked except the check box to be removed under Google Chrome privacy was at "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites". "Enable phishing and malware protection" was not there. To summarize below:
In Chrome settings:
Select "show advanced settings" at the bottom of the screen.
Under Privacy, locate "protect you and your device from dangerous sites" and remove the check mark from the preference.
This disables all phishing and malware checks in the browser.
After download check it again.
Anyway, Chrome designates MAIW as a "Dangerous site???" Perhaps some setting done by MAIW site admin could prevent this?

I suppose it might be something to do with the new host, but only Greg will be able to tell.

Chrome blocked me from downloading the RNAS Culdrose package from the old host until I temporarily disabled Chrome's "Protect you and your device from dangerous sites" option, so it has to be caused by something other than the new host.

Re: Chrome Blocks Download
Google webmaster tools doesn't give any security risks, so why their browser blocks the download is a mystery.
If I had to guess, it may have something to do with the hundreds of incomplete or corrupt downloads that were a result of the server issues before we moved, so Chrome automatically flags it as a bad download for everyone.

Re: Chrome Blocks Download
After some more research, I learned that Google Chrome automatically blocks all zips that include exe files. It doesn't even scan them or anything. I understand that it's a popular way to distribute malware but talk about killing a mosquito with a GBU-31...
The only work-around for now if you want to use Chrome is the method described above, or after Chrome has blocked your file go to the downloads list (ctrl+J) and recover the blocked file.

Or ditch this awful browser and switch to Firefox. I've used for years with no problems whatsoever.
