AI Problems in FS9
AI Problems in FS9
Hello guys,
once in a while I am doing InflightRefueling, using AI-tankers. It worked fine, the AI-tanker was going straight on so I could close up and follow. Since two weeks the same AI-tanker is not going straight anymore, turning back and forth so it is almost impossible to follow. I tried different AI-Tankers, it is all the same.
When I see contrails of any AI-aircraft in the sky, they are all curved now...
Does anyone know this problem to give me any advice to fix it?

This weaving flight track might be caused by significant cross winds at the flight level at which you have your AI Tanker cruising. Try creating a weather scenario where you have no cross winds aloft and your AI tanker might straighten its course back out.
Re: AI Problems in FS9
If you use Active Sky you can select an option to have no winds aloft.

Re: AI Problems in FS9
Thanks Mike and Steve,
I will set up the weather without no wind and turbulences. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
But there is another question brought up by encountering this Problem.
I normaly used the "Abacus KS-3 Viking" and the "AI VC-10 by David Maltby" for In Flight Refueling. These Aircraft never caused any damage to my aircraft even when I got into their exhaust gas stream.
I used the new "MGAI KC-135 Stratotanker" and "NBAI F-18 Tanker" for analysing the problem. This time I crashed with my aircraft when the AI tanker started to move suprisingly and me not being quick enough to avoid the exhaust gas stream.
Is there any way to switch off this effect, just for doing some trials without crashing over and over again?
Would be great if you could help me at that to...!!

Re: AI Problems in FS9
Neither aircraft has any exhaust gas effect.
If you are using Active Sky they have a wake turbulence simulation, have you got that switched on?

I don't use Active Sky.

Re: AI Problems in FS9
Did anyone do traffic files for AI in flight refueling ever?
I would like some. Thx

If you think about it, the only way that you could ever have tankers and chicks refuelling in AI is to have the mdls combined as one. You can plan for tankers and chicks together in the same space at the same time but the AI engine does not allow for formations so each element is treated as separate and so the outcome can be completely variable.
Seeing some of the formation flying, for airshows, that has been achieved I think that it can be do-able but it would be very limited and the height that people refuel at makes any differences in AI fde's very difficult to control.
In short probably not impossible but not very practicable.

Re: AI Problems in FS9
Steve is correct. Mike JG's model of an AI KC-135 refueling AI A-10's in the screenshot below from last summer's 6th MAIW Anniversary
Airshow was awesome.
The best I was able to accomplish several years ago by flight planning as seen in the screenshot below was to get 2 AI F-16 chicks in
relatively close formation with an AI KC-135R with its boom lowered at a typical refueling flight level, but that required some AI FDE
synchronization and some unique AI flight planning between virtual way points.

Re: AI Problems in FS9
I think that's pretty cool, I am not looking for perfection just some tracks running a couple tankers I am not sure the chicks are so much of an issue for me. If i knew how to create it I would have 2 tankers start wherever off the coast of California, probably March, and fly a AAR pattern like a circle along the coast of cali and then kick it out on a 50 mile radius and have them take off however many hours apart needed so that aircraft A is opposite aircraft b on the track so I can fly takeoff from Whidbey Island, hook up with one of the tankers, and land at one of the carriers on its track. As a matter of fact, I have Carrier tracks installed. Can I just delete the carrier, replace it with the tanker and recompile? would that work an keep the tankers in the air?
Just a thought.

Are you talking about FS9 or FSXdk1213 wrote:I think that's pretty cool, I am not looking for perfection just some tracks running a couple tankers I am not sure the chicks are so much of an issue for me. Unfortunately that AI work in the screenshots was done in FS9, so I can't be of much help to you with AI in FSX.
Sorry.
