This is the model with small sponsons, make sure you removed rivets that are going on big sponsons :)
Thank you for repainting my models :D

No answers about RAF Shawbury scenery?

I found an scenery and contact the developer, Mr. Anders. That his answer:

"Hello Miguel.

Thank you for your feedback.

Actually it wasn't the default one at all. It was just one with only the basic parts added.

I always just planned to use the airport with helicopters so I never added any taxiways, runways or other stuff. It's just a "you see what you get" kind of scenery.

If anyone would like to modify it and make complete afcad for it nothing would make me happier.

Take-care

mvh Anders"

Where can I download the Shawbury Squirrels/Griffins?

I have made a repaint myself and have been to the place. One helo came and landed near us at SLEAP EGCV...

There are no Griffins as there is no AI 412 model.
If you look on the previous page of this thread it will tell you that the paints are on flightsim.com

UKMil has an AI Griffin, although you'll have to register to get hold of it. I don't know if it's true AI, though, i.e. LOD's et cetera..

In a really low number, I use this one:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9012304/Velivol ... %202.0.rar
It's a mod of the original Jordan Moore 412.
Absolutely not a real AI. Three LODs: 30332; 3682; 12 polygons....

Jordan's original model has 4 LODs, albeit high in polys, but as you say usable in small gatherings. That's what I use. So fine for the couple at Valley and Akrotiri but you wouldn't the full compliment at Shawbury at the same time. Does the one you have linked to have some other mod, Giorgio?

Hermit, I'm not sure to understand what you mean :oops: , btw the 412 I linked has these models:
model.GF (the only I use)
model
model.army
model.cara
model.cara_cc10
model.cara_cc10_f
model.cara_f
model.cara_s
model.cos
model.sar
model.slick

I was pointing out that Jordan Moore's original 412 on Hovercontrol has 4 LODs (i'm using slick and sar models). I amended the aircraft.cfg to use the stemme heli files for AI use. You said your link was to a 3 LOD mod of Jordan's model so I was enquiring in what way it was different in case it would be better to use than the one I already use.

Gents, the salient point here is that there is no true freeware AI Bell 412.
The Ukmil one is not freeware as you have to pay to join and download it. If it is freeware, providing that somebody has joined and downloaded it, then I wouldn't mind a copy to test out but my guess is that this is not allowed.

On the other two options you discussed are there any schemes available for the DHFS, SARTU and 84 Sqn available? I am guessing not so I think that we are back to the answer to the original question which is that there are no Griffins.

I would love to be proved wrong.

Agreed, no true AI. Giorgio and I are both pointing out that there are usable alternative models (with a few LODs) which are better than nothing as long as they are used in limited numbers.

Search '412' on Hovercontrol and you'll find an HAR2 grey rescue paint on page 16 and a DHFS black/yellow paint plus JM's base model on page 24. As stated above stemme air/cfg heli file conversion needed.

Anyway, I don't wish to hijack Jacques thread any further so I withdraw my question to Giorgio and will stick with what I have got.

I don't mind the UKMIL Bell 412. It lifts off vertically and looks good from a distance. Just don't look at the nose and lack of horizontal stabilizer too much..

It would be good to design some AI helicopters with skids, but the problem is the hover taxi. Unlike the wheel-based helicopters, the skid-based ones need to lift off the ground a foot or so after engine start rather than taxi with the skids scraping along the ground.

The animation to do that is straight forward, but it needs an XML trigger for it to happen. I don't believe Microsoft have provided anything in FS9 or FSX that we can latch on to that would work. It would also need to be a separate trigger that does not interfere with the one used for the lift on take-off.

Could the lift off be somehow linked to a set time from engine start? Or to an rpm increase to initiate taxi? I don't know much about xml, so I apologize if that makes no sense.

Could you key on taxi light or are they only active at night?

Or, I assume take off animation is based on throttle position or engine rpm or something, why not activate say the first 10% of take off animation based on the throttle possition or rpm when taxiing which should more that idle but less than take off?

I played around with Jordan's Blackhawk a few years ago and implemeted take off animation using XML from Nick Black where throttle position >95% triggered 100% of the animation. It would take some trial and error but you should be able to trigger a percentage of the take off animation for throttle or rpm >0% and <95%. Rather than using standard flap animation I animated 3 positions of the stabilator (0, 20, 40 degrees) based on airspeed using this XML which looked really cool when landing:

<part>
<name>l_flap_key</name>
<animation>
<parameter>
<code>
(A:AIRSPEED INDICATED,knots)
d 30 < if{ 40 } els{
d 60 < if{ 20 } els{
d 60 > if{ 0 } els{ 40 }
</code>
<lag>10</lag>
</parameter>
</animation>
</part>

So similar XML could be used on the parent part used for the take off animation but the result of the conditons would be percentage of the take off animation rather than the flap angle. Sounds logical but could be bollocks. :wink:
